Chapel Hill Real Estate “Southern Part of Heaven”
Ask anyone about Chapel Hill and they immediately mention UNC and basketball. While Chapel Hill is best known for the university that rests within the confines of the downtown and for arguably the best basketball player to hit the hardwoods, Chapel Hill offers so much more.
Chapel Hill has developed along a hill; the crest was the original site of a small Anglican “chapel of ease”, built in 1752, known as New Hope Chapel. The Carolina Inn now occupies this site. In 1819, the town was founded to serve the University of North Carolina and developed around it. The town was chartered in 1851, and its main street, Franklin Street, was named in memory of Benjamin Franklin.
Though Chapel Hill has grown into a large metropolitan area, it still retains a small-town feel. The tree lined streets bustle with many small shops and eateries. Many murals can be seen among the town buildings and the town hosts many cultural and performing arts festivals each year.
Hailed as one of America’s Foodiest Small Towns by Bon Appétit, Chapel Hill is rapidly becoming a hot spot for pop American cuisine. Many notable musicians, including James Taylor, George Hamilton, and the Ben Folds Five began their careers in Chapel Hill.
